Entrevista a Phuture Noize «Esperad que sucedan cosas aun mas importantes en 2023…»

Tras la gran experiencia en Defqon.1 tenemos la oportunidad de entrevistar y conocer mas a fondo a Phuture Noize, uno de los mayores talentos actuales del Hardstyle y responsable de abrir el RED STAGE este año en Defqon.1
Por si acaso algún despistado no conoce a Phuture Noize, os dejamos una breve descripción sobre el Dj y Productor Holandés.
Phuture Noize , que en sus comienzos y hasta septiembre del 2015 era un dúo holandés formado por dos amigos, Antoine y Marco, actualmente es Marco Spronk en solitario quien esta detrás de uno de los nombres del momento. Culpable de grandes producciones como «My Beautiful Fantasy» (junto a B-Front), «Masquerade» (álbum Silver Bullet) o «One Tribe» (junto a Keltek y Sefa, himno de Defon.1 2019) que a día de hoy le convierten a pesar de su juventud en uno de los artistas mejor valorados y con una gran trayectoria en el Hardstyle.
Dicho esto, vamos a pasar a la entrevista: cómo se define el propio Marco, cómo vivió el opening del Red Stage en Defqon.1 2023 y hacia donde va el futuro de Phuture Noize.
Cómo se define Phuture Noize y comienzos…
Beats&Repeat (B&R): ¿Quién es Phuture Noize? Eres uno de los artistas más innovadores del panorama. ¿Cuáles son tus orígenes?
Phuture Noize (PN): Nací y crecí en un pequeño pueblo en el sur de los Países Bajos. El Hardstyle siempre ha sido un género con mucho tirón en esta zona y lo sigue siendo a día de hoy, «so it wasn’t hard (nunca mejor dicho)«, por lo que no fue complicado escuchar Hardstyle por primera vez.
Cuando era niño comencé a tocar el órgano y luego un teclado, pero nunca tuve la motivación para continuar. Siempre quise hacer mis propias producciones en lugar de seguir aquellas lecciones. Afortunadamente, mi papá tenía una de las primeras conexiones rápidas a Internet (esto fue en ~2004) en el pueblo y me ayudó a descargar el software para que pudiera grabar mis «jams» por primera vez, con solo 11 años. Pero lo disfruté tanto que eventualmente terminé tocando en DAW durante días mientras estaba en la escuela secundaria. Eso fue lo que encendió mi chispa para hacer música electrónica.
B&R: Who is Phuture Noize? You are one of the most innovative artists on the scene. What are your origins?
PN: I was born and raised in a small village in the south of the Netherlands. Hardstyle has always been a huge genre in this area and still is to this date, so it wasn’t hard (pun) to hear Hardstyle for the first time.
When I was a child I started playing the organ and later on a keyboard, but I never really had the motivation to continue. I always wanted to make my own stuff instead of following these lessons. Luckily my dad had one of the first fast internet connections (this was back in ~2004) in the village and helped me downloading the software so I could record my jams for the first time, only being 11 years old. But I enjoyed it so much that I eventually ended up playing around in DAW’s for days while being in high school. That’s what ignited my spark to make electronic music.
B&R: Hablando de tus inicios, ¿Cuándo supiste realmente que tu futuro estaba en la música? ¿Y por qué decidisteis Phuture Noize como vuestro nombre artístico?
PN: Cuando tenía 15 años comencé con Phuture Noize como dúo con un amigo, no sabíamos mucho sobre la escena o el Hardstyle en general. Eventualmente, cuando comenzamos a interesarnos en tocar en conciertos, simplemente intercambiamos posibles nombres artísticos y esto es lo que se nos ocurrió.
B&R: Talking about your beginnings, when did you truly know that your future was in music? And why did you decide Phuture Noize as your artistic name?
PN: When I was 15 years old I started out Phuture Noize as a duo with a friend, we didn’t knew a lot about the scene or hardstyle in general. Eventually when we started getting interested in playing gigs we simply exchanged possible stage names and this is what we came up with.
B&R: Eres uno de los talentos más jóvenes del género, ¿cómo te sientes al respecto? ¿Y cuál es el mejor consejo que te han dado los veteranos de la escena?
PN: No creo que en esta etapa sea realmente uno de los más jóvenes, he estado actuando durante más de 10 años y después de COVID, muchos jóvenes, nuevos talentos, comenzaron a aparecer con nuevos sonidos. A lo largo de los años, por supuesto, recopilé muchos consejos de mis colegas y las cosas que más me quedaron grabadas son;
“La música debe estar viva, es fácil perderse en el proceso de hacer beeps y kicks, pero nunca olvides que necesitas sentimiento en tu música para que se traduzca a todo el mundo”
“Nunca olvides pinchar algunas canciones para las chicas también, porque cuando las chicas estén bailando, los chicos se unirán”
En esta respuesta, Marco nos deja una gran frase para todos aquellos que estén empezando a producir o en el mundo de la música, la cual queremos dar especial importancia:
Y a lo largo de estos años también aprendí que es muy importante para mí que la música tenga una razón o un mensaje para existir, de lo contrario, rápidamente dejará de tener sentido.
B&R: You are one of the youngest talents in the genre, how do you feel about it? And what is the best advice you have been given by the veterans of the scene?
PN: I don’t think at this stage I am really one of the youngest anymore, I’ve been playing shows now for over 10 years and after COVID a lot of new kids started poppin’ up with new sounds. Over the years of course, I collected a lot of advice from my fellow colleagues and the things that sticked with me the most are;
“Music should be alive, it’s easy to get lost in the process of making electronic beeps and kicks but never forget that you need feeling in your music to make it translate to everyone”. “Never forget to play some songs for the girls as well, cuz when the girls are dancing guys will join”
And over these years I as well learned that it’s very important to me that music should have a reason or message to exist, otherwise it’ll quickly become meaningless.
Hablando de Defqon.1…
B&R: Este año has sido el encargado del opening en el Red Stage, después del opening de Sefa el año pasado, ¿Cómo lo preparaste? ¿Sentiste mucha responsabilidad?
PN: Sí, fue realmente difícil después del increíble show que hizo Sefa el año pasado. Le dedicó mucho tiempo y esfuerzo, por lo que el listón estaba muy alto. Pero después de reflexionar sobre su set, rápidamente supe que esto realmente no encajaba con mi gusto y Phuture Noize, así que comencé con un borrón y cuenta nueva y simplemente escribí las ideas de lo que me encantaría ver en un Live Show de Hardstyle.
B&R: Talking about Defqon. 1, you did the opening at the red stage this year, after last year Sefa’s opening, how did you prepare It? Did you feel lot of responsibility?
PN: Yeah, it was really hard after the bombastic opening show Sefa did last year. He put a lot of time and effort in it, so the bar was set really high. But after I reflected on his set I quickly knew that this didn’t really fit my taste and Phuture Noize, so I started out with a clean slate and just put down the ideas of what I would love to see at a hardstyle live show.
B&R: El Red Stage de Defqon.1 estaba lleno y la gente ansiosa por vivir ese opening , ¿Cómo lo vivisteis? ¿Cómo describes este momento?
PN: Fue increíble, entré sin expectativas del público ya que no sabía qué iba a pasar, era todavía muy temprano al ser el primer set, pero fue realmente bueno. Seguro que es uno de estos momentos en la vida que nunca lo olvidaré. Escuché justo después de ese set que tres cuartas partes de todas las personas en Defqon ese día visitaron mi set. Tenían algunos sistemas de cámaras infrarrojas alrededor del recinto del festival para rastrear los movimientos o algo así, fue genial escuchar eso.
B&R: The red stage was full of Defqon. 1 Crowd, how did you live It? How do you describe this moment?
PN: It was amazing, I went in with no expectations from the crowd since I didn’t know what was going to happen so early on the day but it was really good. For sure one of these moments in life you will never forget. I heard just after that set that three quarters of all the people at defqon that day visited my set. They had some infrared camera systems around the festival ground to track the movements or something, it was really cool to hear that.
B&R: El tema que elegiste para abrir tu set en el Red Stage fue “From Star to Stardust”, de tu último álbum, ¿por qué esta elección?
PN: Esa canción describe la visión actual de Phuture Noize. Hardstyle melódico con mucha energía y con profundidad.
B&R: The track that chose to open your set at red stage was “From Star to stardust”, from your last album, why this choice?
PN: That track describes my current vision for Phuture Noize the most. High energy melodic hardstyle with depth.
Sobre 2023… Un gran año para Phuture Noize
B&R: Fuera de Defqon. 1, fuiste el Anthemaker del Intents Festival, ¿Podría ser 2023 el mejor año en tu carrera?
PN: Jaja, en verdad nunca pensé en eso, pero sí, este año realmente me hizo tachar de la lista algunos grandes objetivos en mi vida y eso es fantástico.
B&R: Out of Defqon. 1, you were the Intent Festival´s Anthemaker, could be 2023 your best year in your career?
PN: Haha I never really thought about it, but yeah this year really made me tick off some life-time goals and that’s fantastic.
Hablando un poco del futuro
B&R: ¿Estás trabajando en un nuevo álbum?
PN: Siempre estoy mirando hacia el futuro y qué tipo de cosas quiero hacer a continuación, y aunque no puedo decir nada sobre en qué estoy trabajando ahora, no dejaremos de trabajar en el estudio este año.
B&R: Talking about the future, are you working on a new album?
PN: I am always looking at the future and what kind of stuff I want to make next, and although I can’t say anything about what I am working on right now but we won’t stop working in the studio this year.
B&R: Después de «Silver Bullet» y «From Star to Stardust» (dos de los mejores álbumes de Hardstyle, en nuestra opinión), ¿Sientes que puedes superar estos álbumes?
PN: Hace tiempo que dejé de lado la idea de superar a los trabajos más antiguos, estos álbumes de alguna manera simplemente suceden. Empiezas un proyecto con ideas y mucha energía y tratas de hacerlo lo mejor que puedes en el momento. Seguiré abordando mis futuros proyectos así.
B&R: After «Silver Bullet” and “From Star to stardust» (two of the best albums on Hardstyle, in our opinion), Do You feel you can outperform these albums?
PN: I let go of the idea of outperforming older works, these albums somehow just happen. You start a project with ideas and a lot of energy and you try to make it the best you can in the moment. I will keep addressing my future projects like that.
B&R: ¿Puedes contarnos algo sobre tus próximas canciones o colaboraciones? Algo que se pueda saber, por supuesto… ¿Qué podemos esperar de Phuture Noize para lo que queda de 2023?
PN: Esperad que sucedan cosas aún más importantes, sé que suena a cliché, pero en realidad hay muchas cosas emocionantes por venir y cuando se tenga que saber lo sabréis…
B&R: Can you tell us something about your next songs or collaborations? That we can know of course… What can we expect from you for the remainder of 2023?
PN: Expect even more big stuff happening, I know that sounds cliché but there’s really a lot of exciting stuff coming up and when you know you know.
